Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Conservation and Design Team Leader

Up to £51,500 + PRP

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has unmatched built heritage with a unique reputation sitting alongside thriving iconic retail centres, a vibrant specialist employment market, an international medical quarter and world class cultural attractions.  We are home to wealthy areas, but also to some of the most deprived wards in London.

We have major regeneration sites like Earls Court and Kensal Canalside, but in the country’s most densely developed Borough some of most complex and controversial applications are smaller proposals which can directly affect our residents’ lives. We have very high standards and planning is an important and integral part of our organisation, with our performance amongst the best.

The Council has an ambitious commitment to build a new generation of affordable homes with jobs, public realm and facilities to make conservation areas of the future.  We’re taking a proactive approach to enforcement which is forging its own reputation and, unlike many, we have a NPPF compliant Local Plan which will be updated shortly.  We will create the places, homes and local employment we need whilst protecting what makes the borough unique.

So your job leading the conservation and design team is to ensure that our communities are well served not only in terms of safeguarding what is cherished but will also benefit from innovative approaches to delivery to ensure that our residential quality of life is improved for everyone.

If you love placemaking and planning, enjoy working in a collaborative way and want to use your planning skills creatively to nurture the future of one of the most wonderful parts of London, we want to hear from you.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Jonathan Wade, Head of Spatial Planning on 020 73612127.
